The Games Afoot!!!! - Tuesday Movie Review

So, I just went and saw the movie, Sherlock Holmes, with my daughter. Now I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, so I was suspicious of any movie that bragged about how good it was. But I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised.

Robert Downy Jr. did a great job of Holmes. He gave him that brilliant yet vulnerable, intuitive yet irritating, and real yet beyond belief feel. You hated him, loved him and were in awe of his intelligence. I'm still not sure about the lack of hygiene that was shown, but it made sense with what was going on at the time.

Jude Law is not one of my favorite actors. He has always been so-so in my opinion. I've seen him in other things, but was never all that impressed. Until now. He played Dr. Watson superbly. He made him not the bumbling side-kick like some movies do, but instead a man worthy of being Holmes' friend and partner. He was kick-ass, romantic and as intelligent and creative in his own way as his friend. I went from shrugging my shoulders at Jude Law to becoming a fan.

The other part of this movie is the graphics. It's old London, and they've done a great job of doing backgrounds, costumes and props that made you feel as if you were right there. Since I just got back from England, it was even cooler to see it as it was then vs now.

It's long...so make sure you are ready to sit through a 2 1/2 hour movie. But I can tell you it seemed to go by very quickly. I highly recommend this flick and am jazzed to hear they are already planning on a sequel to it!

So what movie have you seen recently that made you oooh and ahhhh? Or what movie was so bad you did a face palm when it was over? Share your views on our Tuesday movie review day!!!

Until Tomorrow!

Hugs,

I just saw Avatar in 3D and loved it. Wonderful message, graphics and even a love story. I may go back and watch it at the IMAX.

Hi CJ! I want to see this when it comes out on DVD. (I need the closed captions for the deaf to see the movies so I can't go to the movie theater to watch them). I don't watch movies except for historical related ones (ones set in historical times or old ones!). I've been watching alot of them on Turner Classic Movies! I love all I've read in romance with detectives in it so this is one I'd love to see!

I saw Sherlock Holmes on Christmas Day and enjoyed it very much! Robert Downy Jr. was superb and I totally agree with you about Jude Law.
I also really enjoyed Rachel McAdams performance as well. It was refreshing to see her not so "nice" as she has been in most of her films (excluding Mean Girls)
All in all a really good film and by the looks of things a recurring franchise of them.

Caffey,

You'll be very pleased when you see this one. I'm not an expert, but I sure felt like I was in the middle of old London. It was great.

Cynthia,

I so agree about Rachel McAdams. I'm more apt to talk about the men, but she did very well and was a great foil for Holmes. I enjoyed her as well.

I enjoy long movies, but I know a lot of people don't. It was hard to know how long this one was because you were too busy enjoying it!
